Biography of Dr. Larry S. Murray, Sr.
Dr. Larry S. Murray was born to the late Rev. Stacy and Pearlee Murray of Fayetteville, North Carolina on May 5, 1956. He is the eldest of four boys and four girls. In August 1977, he joined the United States Army and was assigned to Fort Gordon, Georgia where he completed Basic Training and Advance Individual Training. Pastor Murray retired from the United States Army in February 1999 with 21 years and 5 months of active military service. His awards include the Meritorious Service Ribbon, the Army Accommodation Award, (six oak leaf cluster), the Overseas Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Advance Noncommissioned Officer Ribbon. He is a lifetime member of the prestigious Sergeant Morales and Sergeant Audie Murphy Club which is only for top and elite Noncommissioned Officers who has exemplified excellent performance in leadership. He received his Doctorate degree from Jacksonville Theological Seminary in May of 2003. In November of 1985, he met his beautiful wife Mary at his brother Gary’s wedding. They were married on June 7, 1986, at Williams Chapel Church in Spring Lake, North Carolina after a brief courtship of about six months. From this union God has blessed them with three wonderful children, Kwinetta, and twin boys Larry and Lawrence.
Pastor Murray begins pastoring in Osan, Korea in 1996 where he was assigned to the Upper Room Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Larry L Shaw. After returning from Korea Pastor Murray was appointed as Pastor of Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ on Duffy Street, Savannah Georgia in 1997. In October 2000, the Lord blessed them to purchase their own building with plenty of room for growth and expansion. Many people from far and near have had the Gospel Temple experience where God is moving by his power. The presence of the Lord can be sensed as you enter the doors.
In September 2004, the “Fellowship of Love Worship Center” was birthed out of a vision God gave to Pastor Murray. The ministry was started as an outreach ministry to accommodate parishioners that were traveling to Savannah from the Hinesville, Fort Stewart area. Since then, God has placed His approval on this ministry, and it has become a full pledge ministry now recognized as the Fellowship of Love Worship Center where God is blessing people weekly.
Pastor Murray is a man of vision and purpose who loves God’s people and God is using him to do a great work for the Body of Christ. In January 2006, He was appointed as a District Superintendent under the leadership of the late Bishop Chandler D. Owens who was a former Presiding Bishop of the Churches of God in Christ Internationally. He was also appointed by Bishop Owens as Executive Secretary and still serves in that capacity for the South Central Georgia Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop Norman O Harper as well as an Administrative Assistant. Pastor Murray and his wife Evangelist Mary Murray also coaches and teach principles and guidelines for healthy marriage called “Making Your Marriage Work”.
